SEC’s Bitcoin ETF Disaster
Over the past week, several news outlets have reported that the Securities Exchange Commission was set to approve a Bitcoin ETF on Wednesday, with trading of shares to commence the following day.
Last night—Tuesday—the SEC appeared to approve ETFs a day early, using its official 𝕏 account to announce the news. Bitcoin price shot up.
Minutes later, SEC Chair Gary Gensler posted that the SEC account had been “compromised" leading to a fake announcement.
Bitcoin’s price tumbled below where it had been before the announcement, by one estimate liquidating $300M worth of trades.
The irony is that the SEC has been blocking Bitcoin ETF from being approved for more than a decade, often citing crypto market manipulation as the reason for not doing so. ETF non-approval has prevented billions of dollars of Wall Street capital from entering crypto.
On the eve of the day that the agency finally relented, the SEC managed to knock down the price once more time, failing again in its fundamental duty to police misinformation and prevent market manipulation.
On 𝕏, the agency’s mismanagement was widely ridiculed. Edward Snowden unearthed a post from October 2023 in which the SEC warned that the best source of information about its actions was its own accounts.
CNBC, ever eager to defend institutional power and attack Elon Musk, pinned the blame not on the SEC but on 𝕏, falsely claiming that the site had been hacked.
Elon, who has weathered years of legal attacks from the SEC for making social media posts that move markets, took the opportunity to call for Dogecoin to the moon.
Later in the evening, X released the results of its preliminary investigation into the incident, noting that an “unidentified individual” obtained control over the SEC accounts phone number through a third party.
The investigation also noted that the SEC failed to enable two-factor authentication, a basic security protocol that would’ve prevented the hack.
What do you think: should the SEC open an investigation against itself for market manipulation?
Epstein Document Release
Last Wednesday night, the first tranche of new Epstein documents was released to the public, as ordered by SDNY Judge Loretta Preska.
The documents were filed as part of Epstein Victim Virginia Giuffre Roberts’ 2015 defamation lawsuit against Epstein’s madame Ghislaine Maxwell. Their release, announced in late December 2023, has been one of the most highly anticipated events of the new year.
The lead-up to the unsealing was itself filled with drama. Tuesday night, false reports claimed that the documents’ release had been delayed by 30 days.
The same day, Maxwell issued a statement through her lawyer framing herself as a victim: "It’s all about men abusing women for a long period of time…and it’s only one person in jail—a woman."
The documents dominated the conversation on 𝕏 the moment they dropped Wednesday evening, and for several days afterwards.
The first bombshell revelation was testimony about the Bill Clinton’s involvement with Epstein.
One document included testimony from Epstein victim Johanna Sjoberg, who said Epstein told her that “Clinton likes them young, referring to girls.”
Overall, the name “Clinton” appears in the first tranche of documents on 32 separate pages.
Hillary Clinton’s hairdresser was also named, but the former First Lady appeared appeared only once, in a section of a book manuscript noting her absence from a dinner attended by her husband and “two lovely girls who were visiting from New York."
Another big name to appear in the original document release was Prince Andrew.
A document with testimony from a victim—Jane Doe #3, believed to be Virginia Roberts Giuffre—described Andrew’s participation in an “orgy with numerous other under-aged girls” on Epstein’s island in the Bahamas. The same testimony claimed the woman was forced to have relations with Prince Andrew in three different geographical locations.
The same woman was also allegedly trafficked to “one of Epstein’s closest friends and a regular traveling companion” Jean Luc Brunel.
Brunel, a French model scout, was arrested by French authorities in December 2020 and charged with rape of minors, but died in 2022 from an apparent suicide while awaiting trial.
Jane Doe #3 also was also allegedly forced to have sex with Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz in Florida, New York, New Mexico, and the Virgin Islands.
The testimony claimed that Dershowitz negotiated Epstein’s secret Non-Prosecution agreement (NPA) with the government in 2007 that safeguarded Epstein and his associates from further federal prosecution.
Thursday morning, Dershowitz went on the offensive in an interview with Fox, blaming “Hamas-loving feminists” for connecting him to Epstein while ignoring the plight of Jewish women victimized by Hamas. At one point, Dershowitz coined the phrase, “MeToo, except if you’re a Jew.”
Dershowitz’s name appeared more than 100 times in the documents. In a recent interview, he denied the claim that Epstein was an intelligence asset or hedge fund manger, saying, “I don’t know who Jeffrey Epstein is.” Last year, Dershowitz denied Epstein worked for the Israeli Mossad, telling journalist Kim Iverson, “the Mossad wouldn’t hire him.”
The fourth big name to garner attention was theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, best known for his book, A Brief History of Time.
One email shows Epstein encouraging Maxwell to offer a reward to any of Virginia Giuffre’s acquaintances who could help disprove the claim that Hawking “[participated] in an underage orgy” at the Virgin Islands
The email was spun into a meme showing fabricated testimony that Hawking “liked watching undressed midgets solve complex equations on a too-high-up chalkboard.”
The fake screenshot circulated widely on 𝕏 Wednesday night, and was in some cases presented as factual, even though it clearly originated from a meme account.
The bonanza of Hawking memes continued for days as a symbol of Epstein-linked depravity. Many memes depicted the disabled scientist leaving his wheelchair to participate in an island orgy.
Other names appearing in the documents include Former Israeli PM Ehud Barak, Pope John Paul II, Michael Jackson, former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, Hyatt Hotels billionaire Thomas Pritzker, MIT professor Marvin Minsky, magician David Copperfield, and several Hollywood celebrities.
Importantly, the fact that any of these people were appeared in the documents does not constitute proof they had any relationship with Epstein, only that they were mentioned in testimony involving him. In some cases, the person giving testimony denied their relationship with Epstein.
Comedian Jimmy Kimmel, the subject of an Epstein-related dustup with Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers last week, did not appear in the documents.
The story of the Epstein documents was picked up by the legacy press which, true to form, downplayed their significance.
Mainstream media has either ignored or minimized the enormity of the Epstein story for years, despite it being potentially one of the biggest political corruption stories in American history.
In the past, outlets have seemed to direct their investigative suspicion not towards Epstein and his accomplices, but to regular people who find the Epstein story interesting.
When legacy media is forced to mention Epstein, it usually attempts to link him to Donald Trump.
In response to the latest document release, MSNBC pundit Chris Hayes argued that Epstein is a “MAGA obsession” even though “the guy in American politics most closely associated with Epstein and particularly Epstein scandals is, I think, inarguably Donald Trump.”
Hayes also pointed out that RFK Jr was connected to Epstein, concluding his appraisal, “there is only one major candidate for president without any meaningful ties to Epstein. His name is Joe Biden."
Another MSNBC opinion piece about the documents by conspiracy theorist debunker Mike Rothschild named Trump five times, but did not mention Clinton once.
It’s true that Epstein and Trump did have a relationship that goes back decades, and were pictured together on multiple occasions.
Interest in their relationship is fully justified.
Most of the evidence, however, exonerates Trump from any nefarious involvement with Epstein, including the fact that Trump had Epstein banned from Mar-a-Lago for making advances on a minor.
In 2018, Bradley Edwards, a lawyer for 70 of Epstein’s victims, said Trump was the only powerful person to give him meaningful help.
In recent years, Trump has predicted trouble for the Clinton family on the basis of its relationship with Epstein.
Less than a month before the 2016 Presidential election, Trump seemed to accuse Hillary of participating in human trafficking to her face during a white tie Catholic charity dinner, drawing a shocked reaction from the crowd. The remark was largely ignored by legacy press.
Last Wednesday’s documents did include two mentions of Trump: one in which a witness recalled Epstein saying he planned to phone Trump on the way to a casino, and another in which a witness denies ever giving Trump a massage for Epstein.
On Thursday, Donald Trump Jr called for the arrest of Epstein’s associates.
Friday morning, Donald Trump posted a campaign video to Truth Social showing Clinton being questioned about Epstein.
After the first tranche of documents was released, conservative influencer Mike Cernovich published a long-form piece arguing the latest release contained “no revelations.” Cernovich has been covering the Epstein case from a legal angle for years and was involved in a lawsuit to have Epstein documents unsealed.
Instead, he wrote, the latest release represented a mop-up to bring the Epstein story to a close without accountability for any of his clients.
Cernovich’s piece concludes with the claim that “The real Jeffrey Epstein files are the blackmail material” which the FBI confiscated from his properties during raids after his 2019 arrest.
In 2021, during Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial for trafficking, the FBI said the CDs and hard drives confiscated from Epstein’s residences had gone missing.
Later, Cernovich posted a video arguing Epstein was still being protected by intel agencies.
On Thursday, another tranche of documents was released as Epstein (and Hawking) continued to dominate 𝕏. Here were notable developments:
Megyn Kelly said, “We’re going to hear a lot more about Jeffrey Epstein in the coming year. You may be even hearing from him directly. More on that as I’m allowed to tell you.”
Testimony alleged Jean Luc Brunel would connect Epstein with girls as young as 12 and Epstein used underage girls to “blackmail powerful men”
One document included testmony claiming Bill Clinton went to Vanity Fair’s office and threatened the magazine not to write about Epstein and sex trafficking
One document included testimony that said, “Epstein’s purposes in ‘lending’ Jane Doe (along with other young girls) to such powerful people were to ingratiate himself with them for business, personal, political, and financial gain, as well as to obtain potential blackmail information.” Two pages later, it specified his targets to include “numerous prominent American politicians, powerful business executives, foreign Presidents, a well-known Prime Minister (which we exposed to likely be an Israeli Prime Minister), and other world leaders."
Tucker Carlson released an interview with Jeffrey Epstein’s brother Mark, who explained his difficulties obtaining medical records and suggested his brother was murdered
An 1999 article resurfaced claiming that Monica Lewinsky was used by Israeli intelligence to obtain sex tapes of Bill Clinton. The article was in conjunction with a more recent Times of Israel article claiming the Israeli PM had access to the Clinton sex tapes
On Friday, another tranche of documents was released:
As part of the case against Epstein, records from the Clinton Foundation were subpoenaed
Old evidence resurfaced about the CIA’s use of government-funded brothels to collect intelligence in the 60s, called “Operation Midnight Climax”
Singer Oliver Anthony released a short video of his hit “Rich Men North of Richmond” playing over screenshots of Epstein documents
30 Mossad agents were arrested in Turkey
EpsteinGPT, an AI trained to answer questions about the court documents, was banned by OpenAI
Elon chimed in that it “does seem odd” that the FBI and DOJ failed to take down any co-conspirator of the most prolific child sex traffickers in American history
The story took a breather over the weekend, but returned on Monday as additional documents were unsealed.
Monday’s documents were all about claims from one of Epstein’s accusers Sarah Ransome.
In the documents, Alan Dershowitz’s lawyers requested that a court unseal Ransome’s emails to argue that she lacked credibility. The emails included the following claims:
A friend of Ransome’s was “approached, by Special Agents Forces Men sent directly by Hilary [sic] Clinton herself, in order to protect her presidential campaign.”
“I will make sure that neither that evil bitch Hillary or that Paedophile Trump gets elected. I will also make sure that everyone on the God damn planet see’s [sic] that footage and photo’s [sic] and will release them to Wiki leaks by Sunday. I will take down Epstein and his bunch of fuck wit cronies myself!!!!!!!!!! I have also gone to a Russian news paper.”
"Clinton[ ] and Trump must pay for what they did to us as must the rest of the men that were involved in their seedy inner circle."
Ransome said her friend had sexual relations with Bill Clinton, Richard Branson, and Prince Andrew that were recorded on video
"[A]nother friend ... was one of the many girls that had sexual relations with Donald Trump ... She confided in me about her casual 'friendship' with Donald
In 2019, The New Yorker reported that Ransome admitted to making up some of her claims about video to bring attention to Epstein.
The documents also included photographs from Ransome’s time on Epstein island. The photos were later determined to have been included accidentally, and were removed from an updated version of the documents.
Yesterday, more documents came out.
Trump was mentioned two more times, both benignly; Virginia Giuffre said of Trump, “I don't think Donald Trump participated in anything. That would have to be another assumption. I never saw or witnessed Donald Trump participate in those acts, but was he in the house of Jeffrey Epstein. I've heard he has been, but I have yet to see him myself so I don't know”
Clinton and Epstein went on a trip to Thailand, according to a witness, another to Russia, and several other Asian destinations
Model Heidi Klum was mentioned as having attended parties that Epstein also attended
Epstein’s chef and Jimmy Kimmel’s friend Adam Perry Lang was mentioned in the documents
A victim recounted being trafficked to an unidentified prince during a lavish party in Southern France that was not Prince Andrew
Alan Dershowitz criticized Prince Andrew for settling with Virginia Giuffre, calling it a “terrible mistake” and saying he would have won in court
Based on reports, more Epstein documents will continue to be released throughout January.
It’s less certain what will come of the situation. A growing segment of the public is aware that many public figures are potentially still living under threat of blackmail by operations like Epstein’s, but there’s no obvious protocol for citizens to investigate and dismantle a pedophile ring whose tentacles stretch to all corners of society.
The Epstein story is one of the deepest and darkest rabbit holes on the Internet. The legacy media’s failure to perform its most basic investigative function has meant it’s been left up to independent journalists on social media to get the facts, and meme lords to disseminate them.
What do you think: does the evidence suggest Epstein ran an elite human trafficking ring? What was Trump’s likely involvement?
DEI Debate
Last week, the ouster of Harvard President Claudine Gay set off a controversial debate on 𝕏.
Reactions to Gay’s forced resignation broke down along media lines. Legacy outlets decried her removal as the result of a racist campaign by conservative activists.
On 𝕏, there was strong sentiment that Gay’s refusal to condemn genocide of Jewish people, growing number of documented acts of plagiarism, and underwhelming record of scholarship justified her removal.
The meme war was summarized by an Associated Press post which warned of a “new conservative weapon against colleges: plagiarism.”
The post received a Community Note observing that Gay broke Harvard’s own rules for academic dishonesty.
In the wake of Gay’s ouster, another debate ensued about the future of the DEI agenda—Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion—that led to Gay being appointed as Harvard President in the first place.
A common misconception about DEI is that it is a grassroots movement to promote diversity and fight racism.
In practice it is a top-down program implemented by university administrators and corporate management used to justify race-based hiring and admissions.
In the university system, DEI has its roots in radical Marxist critique of America which seeks to replace US capitalism with a version of Communism that redistributes resources not based on class, but race, gender, sexuality, and other categories of identity.
This ideology began in the late 60s and has come to encompass the entirety of the humanities, as well as novel disciplines like critical race theory, gender studies, queer studies, and postcolonial studies.
Out in the real world, the goal of DEI is to engineer equal outcomes for various demographic groups—known as equity—rather than creating the conditions for equal opportunity.
DEI’s critics say that by attempting to force equal outcomes on groups who perform differently, it promotes hiring/admissions/compensation decisions based on race rather than merit.
In doing so, they charge, it rejects MLK Jr’s vision that people not be judged on the basis of their skin color. On the contrary, DEI categorizes at people primarily by their skin color or other immutable characteristics of their identity.
Last week’s DEI debate came to a head during an exchange between Elon and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
Cuban wrote a lengthy defense of DEI in response to Elon’s claim that “Discrimination on the basis of race, which DEI does, is literally the definition of racism.”
Elon responded, “Cool, so when should we expect to see a short white/Asian women on the Mavs?”
An account purporting to be a short Asian woman took up the call, asking Cuban to make her the Mavericks’ point guard.
The post went viral and inspired several memes.
Cuban did not back down, writing a rebuttal arguing that DEI should be understood to use both race and merit for hiring decisions. Later, he attempted to justify DEI admission practices for a program recruiting airline pilots.
At various points in the debate, Elon responded by calling Cuban a racist, liar, and mental gymnast.
When not engaging with Cuban directly, he continued to troll him from afar.
Eventually, Cuban bowed out and hinted that he’d blocked Elon.
Billy was more diplomatic, acknowledging his disagreement with Cuban while still calling him “a shibe for life” (In 2021, Cuban had the Mavericks accept Dogecoin, and went to bat for Doge against a group of rabid Bitcoin maximalists).
Outside of Elon/Cuban, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong expressed his hope that the DEI movement would end, siding with investor Bill Ackman against Claudine Gay and calling the movement illegal.
What do you think: is the DEI movement grassroots or top-down? Does it fight racism or promote it?
Katt Williams’ Viral Podcast
Three days into 2024, Comedian Katt Williams set the Internet ablaze with a viral podcast.
Throughout the nearly three-hour discussion with Shannon Sharpe, Williams called out hypocrisy and deception in the entertainment industry.
Notably, he predicted the coming year would bring a reckoning for entertainers who attained fame by taking shortcuts: “All of these big d*ck deviants is all catching hell in 2024. It’s up for all of them. It don’t matter if you Diddy or whoever you is, TD Jakes, any of them. All lies will be exposed. That’s all. And anyone who takes that the wrong way, know why they take it the wrong way. The truth is the light.”
Later in the same segment, he said, “You know what the #1 job of someone that sold they soul to Hollywood is? It’s to act like it didn’t happen […] it’s a cabal, it’s a consortium. They rock with who they rock with.”
Throughout the podcast, Williams made several headline-grabbing claims about how the entertaining industry works, including…
Referring to Chris Tucker’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein
Commenting on the Hollywood humiliation ritual of making black men wear dresses
Reviving long-standing rumors about P Diddy playing Harvey Weinstein-like gatekeeper role among black entertainers: “I gotta protect my integrity and that virgin hole I was telling you about ’cause P. Diddy be wanting to party and you gotta tell him no…You got to tell him no. I did. I got the receipts for everything I’m telling you.”
Telling a story about how he and Ludacris were both invited to an Illuminati event that would determine the trajectory of their future careers and led to Ludacris’s appearance in the Fast and Furious franchise
Referring to a speculated belief that in order to attain success in Hollywood, performers must sacrifice a loved one
Predicting Sharpe’s show Club Shay Shay would “be in a dimension it’s never been” after the podcast
Did you watch Williams’s interview? Did his claims sound credible?
Farmer’s Protest
This week, German farmers took over Berlin, paralyzing streets in a nationwide protest against planned fuel tax increases which will put small farmers out of business.
Here are a few links with footage of the protests, which are being under-reported by the media
One farmer explains his motivation in an interview: “We’re sick of the lies. We’ve been here for generations, we work 24/7, we’re the people who put food on your plates!”
Elon wrote “Support the farmers!” and said the media has been told not to cover the event

𝕏conomy Updates
Yesterday morning, several big changes were announced to 𝕏.
The changes offered a preview of the 𝕏conomy—the online marketplace of goods and services developing on 𝕏.
1. Peer-to-peer payments will launch in 2024, according to an official 𝕏 blog post.
Dogecoin is the ultimate peer-to-peer payments technology. There’s no guarantee that Elon leads wth Doge, but based on everything he’s said in the last three years, it will become a bedrock of peer-to-peer transactions on 𝕏.
In a recent livestream, Elon confirmed that 𝕏 is “definitely adding tipping,” another vector for money to move between users on the platform.
2. Shopify announced a partnership with 𝕏
Together, these first two announcements suggest the future direction of the 𝕏conomy.
The hope is that anyone can set up an online storefront on 𝕏 to compete with the big merchants like Amazon and Wal-Mart, with 𝕏 functioning as both the meeting place for buyers/sellers and payment processor for the transaction.
X has enabled citizen journalists to achieve distribution comparable to legacy outlets at virtually no cost. For example, with just an 𝕏 account and a low-cost video set-up, Tucker Carlson is reaching millions more people than he ever did at Fox.
Citizen commerce is next. There's strong demand among We The People to support individual creators, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. If enough succeed, it will lead to a decentralized, censorship-proof, and more resilient economy.
A people's economy would reverse decades-long trend of business consolidation in which a few megacorps out-muscled their smaller competitors and put mom-and-pop shops out of business everywhere.
This trend is bad on its own, but its worst effect has been to allow for top-down movements like DEI and ESG to dictate not just commerce but culture and social customs. Employees are forced to accept this social engineering in the workplace not because they want to, but out of fear of running afoul of HR and losing employment.
X has the potential to undo this insidious process and rejuvenate the Internet as a small business powerhouse, which is why Elon's competitors have been fighting tooth-and-nail to keep this platform down. Thankfully, their efforts have failed so far.
3. X has added to its stable of big-name media creators with the additions of Don Lemon, Tulsi Gabbard, and Jim Rome.
Elon has been urging creators across the political spectrum to use 𝕏, and after some resistance, some bigger names are starting to heed his call.
Frankly, this is amazing news. The town square benefits from open dialogue and ideological diversity. The fastest way for ny platform to decline into obsolescence is to become an echo chamber.
X offers unprecedented reach, and has become the machine that engineers the Western zeitgeist. It's really a no-brainer for creators to use it, and the only thing keeping many folks off is the stigma created by the legacy world that X is somehow "far right."
That stigma seems to be dissolving, though, and it looks like other big names will follow in these three's footsteps: Range Media Partners, which brokered the Jim Rome deal, said it was the first of ten shows exclusive to 𝕏.
4. Elon says creator rewards will increase significantly this year.
5. BONUS: Though not directly linked to X, Fox media is reportedly planning to put its creator data on the blockchain, which would allow it to better track when it's used to train AI.
Fox plans to use information from its blockchain platform to negotiate with big tech. The move is a big step toward the mainstreaming of blockchain technology
It also could represent a possibility for 𝕏’s final form, in which user data is stored on a blockchain.
Perhaps the ideal version of the Internet would allow all users to collect a passive income, paid in crypto, when their data used to train AI.
Meme Theory: Stephen Hawking
In the 48 hours following the first release of Epstein documents, Stephen Hawking dominated the memesphere.
Once a celebrity been linked to Epstein’s sex trafficking operation, whatever shred of decorum that contains online behavior goes out the window and it becomes open season on that individual, regardless of their background, eminence, past accomplishments, or anything else.
In Hawking’s case, a meme developed in which the wheelchair-bound physicist regained the ability to walk—or stopped pretending he couldn’t—as soon as he arrived at the famous island.
The Hawking meme, though crude, brought much-needed levity to the difficult subject of child sex trafficking.
One notable meme unearthed a scene from The Simpsons in which Hawking presses a secret button on his wheelchair that turns it into a helicopter and escapes away with Lisa on his lap.
The scene is another absurd instance of Simpsons predicting reality,
Hawking meme is a textbook example of memes’ power to transmute darkness into humor, making unpalatable truths digestible and comforting the disturbed through laughter.
The best explanation of the Hawking meme’s virality is that it allows the concept of Epstein island to enter into peoples’ minds through an alternate channel—comedy—bypassing internal filters that block out uncomfortable subjects like elite pedophilia.
Linked is a video play-by-play analyzing the meme and a collection of Hawking gifs. Below are several more Hawking memes that went viral over the last week:

This is insane.” He questioned why the same people who claim voter ID is racist were in favor of vaccine passports. He also questioned why US elections take so long to count and why people take mainstream media at their word that there is no voter fraud. Later, he highlighted efforts by liberal states to allow illegal immigrants to vote, pointed out that you can print your own ballot in California, and noted proof of citizenship is not required to vote in either Arizona or California.

House Republicans are set to begin impeachment proceedings this week against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his handling of the US-Mexico border. Elon posted a video about Mayorkas’ impeachment with the text, “Aiding & abetting illegal immigration is a felony crime.”
When asked about the migrant crisis, Joe Biden told a reporter, “They outght to give me the money I need to protect the border.” NYC Mayor Eric Adams signed an order to restrict buses from Texas entering New York. Elon wrote, “At this point, there is no question that this administration is actively facilitating illegal immigration. The numbers speak for themselves” and called for the government to increase legal immigration. Highlighted a report that cartels are making $32B a week from human smuggling in Eagle Pass.
Elon said the government is making almost no deportations and called on media to inform the public about the border. He explained how illegal immigration drives up the price of housing for citizens. He repeatedly accused the Democratic Party of allowing illegal immigration as an: electoral strategy
